By adopting one hectare of land and planting approximately 650 Narra trees, Emerson has not only contributed to reforestation efforts but also supported local communities. To date, Emerson has planted a total of 1,265 trees, in partnership with Mt. Purro, supporting the enhancement of biodiversity, improving air quality and providing potential sources of livelihood for local communities. The planted trees are expected to reduce carbon emissions, prevent soil erosion, and promote a healthier environment for future generations. This initiative is more than just an environmental effort; it is a demonstration of Emerson’s corporate responsibility and commitment to sustainable practices.

Enhancing Access to Clean Water in Tanay, Rizal

In partnership with Waves for Water, Emerson Manila has addressed the critical issue of inadequate access to clean water in the Philippines. The Water Filter Donation initiative has empowered underserved communities by providing them with access to clean, safe drinking water. This initiative primarily benefited Barangay Laiban, Tanay, Rizal, where 440 households, around a total of 2,285 individuals, received eighty-eight water filters and 122 grocery packs.

This project has not only improved public health by reducing waterborne diseases but also enhanced the quality of life for many. By including follow-up visits and involving community leaders, the program ensures the proper use and maintenance of the water filters, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. This comprehensive approach aims to create a sustainable model for other regions facing similar challenges, amplifying the long-term impact of the initiative.

Collective Action for Conservation

The Green Leaf Program, launched by the Emerson Manila Green team, has been instrumental in cultivating a culture of sustainability within the organization. This program motivates employees to make sustainable choices in their daily lives, rewarding them with points for actions like recycling, conserving energy, and reducing waste. The program’s straightforward principle of “swipe, earn, and be rewarded” has made sustainability an attainable and rewarding objectives for all participants.

With 942 employees actively participating, marking a 35% increase from the previous year, the program has seen significant success. Collectively, employees have taken 7,933 sustainable actions, contributing to the company’s overarching environmental goals.

Driving Change Through Carpooling

Emerson Manila’s Carpool Program is another strategic initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. By encouraging employees to carpool, the program helps reduce the collective carbon footprint, alleviate traffic congestion, and foster a sense of community within the workforce. With 155 carpoolers sharing 394 trips, the program has successfully avoided 1,147 kg of CO2e emissions, underscoring the positive impact of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.

The Carpool Program was designed to make carpooling convenient and attractive for employees. By providing exclusive parking slots for carpoolers, the program incentivizes employees to share rides and reduce their reliance on single-occupancy vehicles. This initiative exemplifies Emerson Manila’s commitment to innovative and practical solutions for a sustainable future.

Supporting Sustainable Business Practices

The inaugural Emerson Manila Sustainability Expo displayed the company’s support for businesses championing sustainability. Among the partners was Rural Rising Philippines (RuRi), a grassroots non-profit aiding distressed Filipino farmers through “rescue buys” of overproduced fruits and vegetables. The expo also featured Waves for Water and MAGWAI, a producer of locally made reef-safe sunscreens.

The event was a resounding success, with two hundred boxes sold and some donated to utility personnel. It highlighted the mutual benefits for farmers and consumers, reinforcing Emerson’s commitment to sustainability and support for local sustainable businesses.
