ABOUT AMCHAM PHILIPPINES

The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham) is a private, independent, non-profit association founded in Manila in 1902. It was incorporated on July 3, 1920 and organized under Philippine laws. AmCham is affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States (COCUSA) and the AmChams of Asia Pacific (AAP). It also maintains close liaison with the Australian-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (ANZCHAM), Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CanCham), European Chamber of Commerce (ECCP), Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI), Korean Chamber of Commerce (KCCP), and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PCCI), as well as the US Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber has become an avenue for American and non-American businessmen to collaborate in achieving common goals and objectives. In pursuing its mission, work is carried out under the guidance of the following: an annually elected 10-member Board of Directors; 20 standing Committees, 4 Internal Committees, and 6 Special Activities whose chairpersons and members are chosen from the General Membership. AmCham’s NCR office also has a permanent staff, led by the Executive Director, the Chamber’s full-time professional manager. AmCham has expanded to cover strategic locations with chapters established in North Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The Chamber exists to serve the interests of Philippine and American businesses through the participation of members in promoting their long-term objectives, while contributing to the civic and economic development of the Philippines.

Executive Director, AmCham Philippines

Mr. Hinchliffe is the Executive Director for AmCham Philippines. He arrived back in the Philippines after a 12 year absence that saw him working in Texas, Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia. He officially began his position with AmCham Philippines on December 1, 2012.

A Texan, with a BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Ebb was based in the Philippines from 1993 – 2000. He is married with one child.

He has spent 22 of the last 25 years in Asia Pacific which includes 21 years with a US-based pump manufacturing company, 6 years with a prominent semiconductor company, and the last 4 years in the service Industry.

FRANK THIEL

President, Amcham Philippines
Managing Director, Quezon Power

Frank Thiel currently serves as Managing Director of Quezon Power (Philippines), Limited Co. (QPL) with the primary responsibility of maintaining the profitability of the company’s 460MW coal-fired power project in Mauban, Quezon.

He is also the General Manager for the San Buenaventura Power Ltd. Co. (SBPL), a new 500MW supercritical coal-fired plant located also in Mauban, Quezon. He also manages contracts, financial, commercial, and regulatory activities related to the power project.

Aileen is responsible for the growth and leadership of IBM Philippines’ operations, which includes sales, distribution, and global delivery services. Aileen will build on the strong collaboration with clients, partners, government, and communities to advance digital transformation and inclusive progress using AI, Cloud, industry capabilities, and other emerging technologies.

She is the first homegrown Filipina leader of IBM Philippines with a remarkable 26-year track record of pioneering innovations and driving business results in IBM. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the Ateneo de Manila University.

MARK LWIN

2ND VICE PRESIDENT, AMCHAM PHILIPPINES MANAGING DIRECTOR, REED ELSEVIER SHARED SERVICES PHILIPPINES, INC.

He is currently the Managing Director for Reed Elsevier Philippines, a 4,200-strong knowledge services and technology company servicing LexisNexis, Elsevier, and the RELX group of companies worldwide. Previously, he spent 16 years as a senior executive for AIG in a variety of roles: general manager for AIG’s insurance arm in Philippines, Transformation Officer for Asia Pacific, and head of AIG Shared Services in Asia. In these and previous roles, Mark has spent two decades based in Manila and Kuala Lumpur in a variety of general management, business, and operational leadership roles.

ROBERTO BATUNGBACAL

Roberto “Bobby” Batungbacal is a third generation chemical professional, born to a family of chemists, chemical engineers and manufacturing entrepreneurs. He is currently the Philippine Country Manager of Dow, the world’s leading material science company. He held various Asia Pacific regional positions in Dow, such as Commercial Excellence Leader, Marketing Manager, Sales Education and Consulting Leader and Sales Director for Dow’s Performance Materials Division in Australia, New Zealand, Philippines and Vietnam.

MICHAEL BREEN

Mike is responsible for continuing to drive Ford’s momentum in the Philippines, including sustaining the success of its vehicle lineup and further enhancing the ownership and aftersales experience for Ford customers.

Under his leadership as Managing Director, he supported distributors to grow Ford’s presence in selected markets by introducing new products which led to a 15 percent increase in volume and 5.6 points improvement in market share.

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Communications from Oakland University in 1991, he joined Ford in 1993 as a customer service representative in Ford North America.

MARISSA DE UNGRIA

DIRECTOR, AMCHAM PHILIPPINES DIRECTOR, COUNTRY MANAGER S.C. JOHNSON & SON, INC.

Maris is the Director, Country Manager of SC Johnson Philippines. She was appointed to this role on May 1, 2016. As Country Manager, she heads the Sales team in the country, a member of the ASEAN Management Committee and reports to the Vice President and General Manager for ASEAN. Prior to being the Country Manager, she was National Sales Manager for Modern Trade from July 2013 to April 2016. As NSM for Modern Trade, she delivered year-on-year growth of topline sales and consistently exceeded targets.

PETER MAQUERA

As CEO of Microsoft Philippines, Peter is responsible for accelerating the cloud and digital transformation journey of every business in the Philippines, helping the community build resilience through digital skills and empowering digital-first companies and start-ups with the tools to scale their innovation. Peter has an extensive experience in building and transforming companies, from early-stage development to market leadership across various industries including business process outsourcing, IT, real estate, and finance.

Prior to Microsoft, he was the Senior Vice President of Globe Telecom, Inc., managing their enterprise business by providing ICT services to the top corporations in the Philippines. Before that, he was Deputy CEO and Director of LiveIt Investments, Ayala Corporation’s holding company, for its investments in Business Process Outsourcing.

He is currently a Board of Trustee with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), Board Advisor to the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines, Inc. (SEIPI), and Alternate Director of Bridge Alliance.

He has an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

RAFAEL FAJARDO

Raffy is currently the Chief Executive Officer for Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines, Inc., performing overall general management, leadership and strategy development for the country.

Raffy has vast experience in working across Asia prior to his assignment in the Philippines. With a career spanning 22 years, Raffy has led regional business units and emerging markets across various parts of the Asia Pacific. He has deep experience in developed & emerging markets including starting up new businesses; transforming business and organizations to deliver sustained leadership results, cultivating talent and organizations, as well as building deep external partnerships with key stake-holders. He is also deeply committed to giving back to society and driving sustainability in both his personal and professional capacities.

CARLOS MA. G. MENDOZA

Caloy Mendoza has been with JP Morgan for 12 years. He has been former Country Chief Roberto “Bobbit” Panilio’s deputy since February 2018 as part of the bank’s succession planning.

As deputy SCO, he oversees management of the bank’s overall franchise in the country across all lines of business.

Before joining JP Morgan, Mendoza had worked at GE Capital for eight years with the rank of vice president. He was a senior associate at PCI Capital.

Mendoza graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1991 with a degree in management engineering and obtained his MBA (finance and international business) from NYU Stern School of Business in 2000

RICK SANTOS

Rick Santos is the Chairman, CEO and Founder of Santos Knight Frank (an affiliate of Knight Frank, the largest privately owned global real estate consultancy, with more than 500 offices in 60 countries across the globe including a strategically important partnership with Newmark Knight Frank in the United States). Santos Knight Frank was the country’s first fully integrated real estate service provider.

Mr. Santos was born in the Philippines (his father is from Zamboanga) and raised in San Marino, California, USA. His education covered UC Berkeley, the London School of Economics and Oxford University.

Bruce is the Cluster General Manager for Marriott International Hotels located in Manila and Iloilo. He began his term as President of AmCham in January 2017. A 27-year veteran of Marriott, Bruce has worked in Europe, the USA, and Asia, and was named General Manager of the Year for Asia-Pacific in 2018 and 2013. A graduate of the New Hampshire College in Manchester, NH, Bruce also has an Executive Leadership Certificate at Cornell University, and a Managing Performance Certificate from the Harvard Business School Executive Education program.

He is married to Christina and has 2 teenage children, Alex and Colin. Bruce is passionate about providing growth opportunities for the talented workforce of the Philippines, and actively advocates for legislation that enables job creation.

Aileen Sarah T. Lerma, a partner, is working with the Securities department. Her practice focuses on securities and corporate law (including mergers and acquisitions, and data privacy matters).

Aileen has extensive experience in handling various capital market transactions, among which are local and international offerings of debt and equity securities, asset-based securities, certificates of deposit, securitizations, and initial and follow-on public offerings. She represents both domestic and foreign clients regarding transactions, regulations, and investments before various government agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Department of Finance, Board of Investments, and Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

Philip is the President and Country Representative of Cargill Philippines, Inc., the main operating company and the parent company of Cargill’s various businesses in the Philippines. He is also the Commercial Director for various Food Ingredients and Bio-Industrial (FIBI) businesses and the President of Philippine Bio-Industries, Inc., a Cargill joint venture.

Philip joined Cargill in 1995 as a Singapore-based manager in the Financial Markets Trading Group, then Cargill’s proprietary financial trading business. He managed the group’s investment portfolio for the Philippines and subsequently moved to the Philippines later that year to assume an additional role as country treasurer.

Mr. Drysdale also makes direct private equity investments in high growth communications, media and consumer beverage companies. Since 1994, Mr. Drysdale has been an investor in the San Francisco Giants baseball team.
